Putin thanked the UAE president for the arrest of the suspect in the shooting of the Russian general

Today, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSS) announced that a Russian citizen born in Ukraine was extradited from Dubai to Moscow, who is suspected of shooting Vladimir Alekseyev, the first deputy head of the Main Intelligence Department in Moscow.

The FSB announced that it has identified the identity of two more Russian citizens involved in the shootings. one was arrested in Moscow, the other, supposedly, went to Ukraine.

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported earlier that an unknown person attempted to assassinate the Lieutenant General of the Russian Defense Ministry, First Deputy Head of the General Intelligence Department, Vladimir Alekseev, by firing several shots at him from behind. According to law enforcement officials, the incident took place near Alekseev’s apartment. A criminal case has been opened on charges of attempted murder and illegal arms trafficking.

In the summer of 2023, Alekseev participated in the negotiations with Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the private military group “Wagner”, when he, going against the administration, drove the tanks to Moscow. According to the Russian media, Alekseev was one of the main coordinators of the “Russian volunteer groups” fighting in Ukraine. In 2017, he was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation.

The attack on Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev was the latest in a series of killings or injuries of high-ranking generals in the Russian Defense Ministry.
