Unibank of Armenia was also included in the package of new EU sanctions against Russia

Armenian Unibank was also included in the list of new EU sanctions against Russia.

“Freedom” has at its disposal the 20th package of restrictions drawn up by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the European Union, the purpose of which, according to Brussels, is to target Russia’s revenues and military capabilities in response to the war against Ukraine, which has been going on for four years.

Among 103 organizations and individuals, it is proposed to impose sanctions on Unibank, founded in Armenia in 2001, and Azerbaijan’s Yelo Bank. If the package is adopted with this text, these banks will be deprived of the opportunity to perform financial functions with the EU, their assets in the EU will be frozen.

The package has already been discussed among the EU member states, it is expected that it will be finally approved in the coming days, on the threshold of the fifth anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“For the first time, we will also intensify the fight against sanctions evasion by banning the export and supply of computerized digital control vehicles and radio receivers when there is a high risk of re-export of these products to Russia,” European Commission President Ursula von de Leyen said last Friday.
