Tomàs Guarino is left without a skating final in Milan-Cortina after being twenty-fifth in the short program

This Tuesday, the Spanish Tomàs Llorenç Guarino was twenty-fifth in the short program of figure skating on ice during the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, which are being held in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo (Italy), and because of this he has not progressed to the final of the free program that will be held next Friday.

At the Milano Ice Skating Arena, inside the Unipol Forum in Assago, the Catalan was part of the first of the five groups of skaters. After having solved the problem with the copyright to perform his usual routine this season, Guarino went out on the track dressed just like Stuart, Kevin and Bob, protagonists of the movie ‘The Minions’ (2015),

Although the Catalan hooked the audience, he soon had to tune up because his triple ‘axel’ did not flow. Then he performed a triple ‘flip’ with an unclear edge and, after a combination of feet at level 4, he linked triple ‘lutz’ with triple ‘toeloop’. For the outcome, he did more pirouettes at level 4, a step sequence at level 3, and a flight into a seated spin at level 4.

Thus, their technical elements score was 34.25 and their factored components score was 35.55, for 69.80 points in total. As the competition progressed in the Milan pavilion, few opponents failed and Guarino was being overtaken by the majority in the qualifying table.

The leader was the American Ilia Malinin, who with 108.16 points finished ahead of the Japanese Yuma Kagiyama (103.07) and the Frenchman Adam Siao Him Fa (102.55). Of the 29 competitors, the best 24 entered the free program, so Guarino narrowly missed the finalist ticket.
