“Facades” with Sandra Hülser: Documentary film about domestic violence

Ein man and a woman share the bed. From a bird’s eye view, the camera looks at their bodies nestled together. But in the very next shot the idyll is torn apart and the woman is almost thrown out of the picture. Actress Sandra Hülser’s voice comes from the soundtrack: “He was a footballer, like my brother. He worked persistently for me.” And, Hülser continues, with success. But as soon as the couple lives under the same roof, the woman experiences hell on earth: daily abuse. To friends and neighbors, the attacker remains “nice, lovable, charming”, which is why no one around can (or wants) to imagine what is happening behind the locked front door: punches, kicks, rape and physical violence, even attempted murder.
