Discussion among colleagues ends in stabbing in a remote location: “He flirted with his ex-fiancée and he didn’t think that was okay”

A discussion among colleagues at Volvo Logistics resulted in a stabbing on June 12, 2025. A 22-year-old man was injured; his 19-year-old colleague was summoned to court. The prosecutor demanded ten months in prison, if necessary linked to probation, and a fine of 800 euros.

Lawyer Dennis Van Overstraeten, who represented the suspect, tried to provide some more context. “He had flirted with the ex-fiancée of a colleague, and he did not like it. An argument ensued and he was also threatened.”

Community service

That particular day in June, the suspect was taken by a mutual friend to talk things out. “He quickly realized what the intention was,” explained lawyer Van Overstraeten. “They drove to a remote place and there he was surrounded by a group, including several colleagues. Then he acted.”

According to the man, he lashed out with the knife because he felt threatened. Van Overstraeten asked to impose community service on him. “This is about an ordinary citizen with a clean criminal record who has done wrong, but fully realizes it. The context in this story is important.”

The verdict will be delivered on March 12.
