Criminal proceedings were initiated against the Catholicos, he was forbidden to leave the country

The RA Prosecutor’s Office initiated a criminal prosecution against the Catholicos of All Armenians on the charge of obstructing the execution of the judicial act related to Arman Saroyan, lawyer Ara Zohrabyan reports.

“The departure of His Holiness the Pope from Armenia has been banned, which is an attempt to thwart the Episcopal meeting to be held in Austria,” Zohrabyan noted, adding, “the Prime Minister announced yesterday that he will not allow the Catholicosate to leave Armenia.” It was obvious that such actions would follow after that announcement.”

The Prosecutor’s Office refuses to disclose information about this.

The day before, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that “he will not allow Catholicism to be taken out of Armenia.” The Prime Minister stated that he has information that they want to move the Catholicosate, and the signatories of the letter published yesterday are also trying to organize it. A number of representatives of the diaspora stated that “constant attacks on the leadership of the church and threats of forced removal of its leader” are a direct threat to all Armenians in the world.

The Episcopal Assembly is planned for February 16-19 in Austria.
