Chaos on the flight: a violent fight on the plane caused an emergency landing

Flight LS896 of the British Jet2 company that took off from Antalya to Manchester had to make an emergency landing in Brussels following a violent fight that broke out between several passengers. The videos circulated on social networks documented the absolute chaos that was inside the plane while it was in the air, with the passengers involved fighting among themselves with kicks and punches, and shouting and cursing in the background.

One of the passengers who was sitting close to the event said that what was supposed to be a “simple and routine journey” turned into a “shaking event”. According to him, a man who was sitting behind him and was drunk, began making loud racist comments: “He drank during the flight, but was fully aware of the environment and what he was saying. The incident escalated after he failed to buy cigarettes during the flight, so he began to show aggression towards the flight attendants.”

The witness also said that “at a certain point it became very physical. The passengers felt distressed and the atmosphere really became chaotic.” Later, according to the reports in the UK, the same passenger began making racist and insulting comments again towards passengers of Pakistani origin who were sitting next to him. The flight crew intervened, tried to calm the spirits without success, and then the confrontation quickly escalated into a physical fight inside the plane.

The Jet2 company stated that the two passengers who were involved in the incident were put on the blacklist that will ban them from flying with the company permanently: “We can confirm that the passengers will never fly with us, we will act with full determination to recover the costs incurred by us as a result of flying the flight to another country.”
