At least four dead in Israeli bombing in Lebanon despite ceasefire

At least four people have been killed in an Israeli airstrike near Masnaa, in southern Lebanon and near the border with Israel. The deceased would be members of the Palestinian group Islamic Jihad.

The incident occurred in the Majdel Anyar area, in the Bekaa Valley, about 40 kilometers north of the Israeli border, according to the official Lebanese news agency, NNA. An image of a burned-out car that would be the target of the attack has circulated on social networks.

The Israeli Armed Forces have confirmed an attack against “Islamic Jihad terrorists.” “The Israel Defense Forces recently attacked terrorist elements of the Islamic Jihad terrorist movement in the Majdal Anyar area of ​​Lebanon,” Israeli military spokesperson Ella Waweya published in Arabic on social media.

Israel has launched dozens of bombings against Lebanon despite the November 2024 ceasefire, arguing that it is acting against Hezbollah activities and ensuring that, therefore, it does not violate the pact, although both Beirut and the group have been critical of these actions, also condemned by the United Nations.

The ceasefire contemplated that both Israel and Hezbollah had to withdraw their troops from southern Lebanon. However, the Israeli Army has maintained five posts in the territory of its neighboring country, something also criticized by the Lebanese authorities and the Shiite group, which demand an end to this deployment.
