Pair skating duo Hase/Volodin on course for gold at the Olympics before the free skate

The lead over second-placed Anastasia Metelkina/Luka Berulawa from Georgia is 4.55 points. Third are the Canadians Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud (74.60 points). The second German pair Annika Hocke/Robert Kunkel took eleventh place with 67.52 points after a good performance without any major mistakes.

Hare/Volodin wanted to reflect on themselves

The German focus was on medal hopefuls Hase/Volodin, who have been a figure skating couple for more than three years. Everything for both of them was geared towards the Olympic Games. The Russian-born Volodin only received the German passport necessary to take part in the Olympics last year. In the short program, the 2025 European champions delivered despite great expectations.

“We think about what we can influence,” said Hase before the competition – and that worked. As hoped, the duo training in Berlin presented themselves in top form and showed a clean performance without showing any nerves.

The two 26-year-olds also showed great improvement compared to the European Championships a month ago in Sheffield, UK, when they made many mistakes in their programs and had to settle for second place behind Metelkina/Berulawa.

Next German gold coup possible in pair skating

Aljona Savchenko and Bruno Massot celebrated the last German figure skating medal eight years ago in Pyeongchang, when they won gold with a dream freestyle. This time too, Olympic victory awaits. Similar to Savchenko/Massot, Hase/Volodin also need a strong freestyle.
