Sleep with socks? The experts reveal how it improves the quality of sleep

In the cold winter days, many ask: should you sleep with socks? While some see it as a simple way to warm their feet and feel comfortable, others avoid it for fear of overheating. However, according to experts and studies, socks may actually have a real contribution to improving the quality of sleep.

It is recommended to avoid tight or pressing socks

A small study conducted in 2018 at Seoul National University in South Korea found that participants who slept with socks on average fell asleep about 7.5 minutes faster, woke up less during the night and slept about 32 minutes longer compared to those who slept without socks. However, experts emphasize that socks are not a solution to chronic sleep problems such as insomnia or sleep apnea.

Dermatologists recommend choosing cotton or merino wool socks, clean and loose, to prevent damage to blood circulation. It is recommended to avoid tight or pressing socks. In medical cases such as diabetic foot or fungal infections, a doctor should be consulted before using socks while sleeping. For those who suffer from cold feet, socks can be worn for a short time before bed to warm the feet – and removed afterwards for a more comfortable sleep.
