Risk of fire in hundreds of thousands of BMW cars

BMW’s recall concerns several different car models that have been sold in different parts of the world.

Car giant BMW is recalling hundreds of thousands of cars due to a possible fire hazard, German media reports Bild and motor vehicle operation. According to kfz-Betrieb, the recall affects around 575,000 cars worldwide.

The recall is related to the starter motors of the cars in question. Their magnetic switches may wear out more than usual, making it difficult or completely impossible to start the car. In the worst case, the starter motor can overheat, which in turn can cause a fire hazard.

BMW recommends that the vehicle should not be left unattended with the engine running, says Bild.

According to Bild, the recall concerns the 2-series Coupé, several 3-, 4-, and 5-series car models, the 6-series Gran Turismo and the 7-series Sedan. The X4, X5, X6 and Z4 cars are also subject to the recall. The vehicles possibly affected by the problem were manufactured in the 2020s, but the exact date is not known, according to Bild.

At this stage, it is not known how many recalled vehicles there are in Finland.
