Marco Rubio highlights that Venezuela “is much better” without Maduro and assures that they made him “several offers”

The North American Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, stressed this Sunday that Venezuela “is much better” now than before the US military incursion to capture President Nicolás Maduro and recalled that they made him several offers that he rejected.

“There is still a long way to go. There is a lot of work to do, but I can tell you that Venezuela is much better today than it was six weeks ago,” Rubio said during a press conference from Bratislava with the Slovak Prime Minister, Robert Fico.

Fico himself criticized the US military incursion in Caracas and Rubio has acknowledged that there are close allies who “did not like it”, but this does not prevent cooperation because “countries express their opinion all the time.”

“But I tell you one thing: it was a success. We are proud of it. It was necessary because that guy was a narco-terrorist. We made him several offers and he decided to reject them,” he argued. “Now everyone can agree that Venezuela has an opportunity for a new future that did not exist six weeks ago,” he noted.

On the other hand, Rubio has referred to the negotiations with Iran, which will be resumed with the indirect format in the second session, scheduled for Tuesday in Switzerland. “We are dealing with radical Shiite clerics. We are dealing with people who make geopolitical decisions based only on theology,” he explained.

“No one has ever been able to reach a successful agreement with Iran, but we are going to try,” he said, referring to the open talks between Washington and Tehran after threats of a new US military intervention.
