Prices of many essential goods are stable, supply is abundant, meeting the increasing shopping needs of people before the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026.
The Ministry of Finance said that on February 16 (December 29), people’s shopping activities took place vibrantly at supermarkets, shopping centers, convenience stores and traditional markets. Transportation and distribution of goods are guaranteed to be smooth, with no congestion.
Prices of some product groups fluctuate slightly due to the time approaching Tet, focusing on food groups, fresh and processed foods, beverages, fruits and fresh flowers. Specifically, rice prices are stable thanks to abundant domestic supply. Pork, poultry and seafood increased slightly at some traditional markets due to high purchasing power, while prices at supermarkets remained stable thanks to stabilization programs.
Prices of vegetables, tubers, and fruits rarely fluctuate, some items change slightly due to the impact of weather and transportation costs. The supply of confectionery, beverages and fast-moving consumer goods continues to be guaranteed, and selling prices are stable. Fresh flower prices increased due to high demand but no widespread “price fever” phenomenon was recorded.

In Hanoi, shopping demand is stable compared to the 28th day of Tet. Prices of food items, food, fruits and Tet flowers do not fluctuate much. Flower markets sell a variety of peaches, kumquats, orchids, and apricots, meeting the need for Tet decorations.
In Hai Phong, purchasing power increased by 10-12% compared to the previous day. Food and basic food prices are stable, while flowers and ornamental plants are down 20-30% due to sellers selling off goods at the end of the year. For example, small peach branches cost 100,000-250,000 VND per branch, kumquats cost 200,000-700,000 VND per tree, yellow chrysanthemums from 70,000 VND per dozen, lychees 25,000-35,000 VND per branch, single branches 16,000-18,000 VND…
Ho Chi Minh City recorded a sharp decrease in the amount of goods arriving at wholesale markets such as Thu Duc, Hoc Mon, and Binh Dien because many small traders took an early holiday for Tet. Some vegetable and fruit products decreased in price due to oversupply, while pork increased slightly by 5,000-10,000 VND per kg. In Da Nang, trading activities slowed down compared to previous days. Food prices are stable. Some types such as tiger shrimp, pork patties, and live hens increased by about 3-17%.
The distribution system in Can Tho operates at maximum capacity, purchasing power increased by 30-35% compared to normal days. Meat prices increased slightly, while some vegetable and fruit prices decreased.
The Ministry of Finance predicts that on the 1st day of Tet (February 17), shopping demand will decrease sharply after the peak period before New Year’s Eve, but some services such as parking, dining, and refreshments in spring travel and festival areas may increase slightly locally, but will not affect the general level.
Management agencies continue to require localities to closely monitor market developments, regulate product sources, control prices, and ensure good service to people’s consumption needs during and after Tet.
