Great frustration: half-time leader McGrath was annoyed about his exit

On the way to the greatest triumph of his career, McGrath made a serious mistake early on. The 25-year-old already merged into the top part of the route – and then a world collapsed for him.

First the sticks had to act: McGrath hurled both sticks into the forest in a rage.

He then left the race track and trudged off lonely towards the forest. When he couldn’t get any further at the next barrier fence, McGrath lay down in the snow.

You have to understand Atle Lie McGrath’s anger and disappointment: The Norwegian was highly emotional at the start after his grandfather died a few days ago. McGrath wore a mourning ribbon and wanted to win this gold medal for his grandfather.

After the initial annoyance, the Norwegian straightened himself out and skied to the finish to the applause of the ski fans.
