The German curling men have slightly improved their chances of reaching the semi-finals of the Winter Olympics. The team led by captain Marc Muskatewitz won the all-important duel with defending champions Sweden 7:3 and thus moved a little closer to the top four places in the table.
In the tenth and final round, Johannes Scheuerl briefly caused a stir when he touched a Swede stone with his foot and then slipped. The two teams spoke to each other briefly, and ultimately the stone was pushed back a few centimeters to its original position.
In action twice on Tuesday
After six of a total of nine preliminary round games, national coach Uli Kapp’s selection has three wins and three defeats. After losing to the USA and Great Britain at the weekend, the Germans showed a much-needed reaction with their win against Sweden. On Tuesday they will be in action twice – in the morning against the Czech Republic (9:05 a.m.) and in the evening against Switzerland (7:05 p.m.).
A total of ten teams will play for the medals in Cortina d’Ampezzo. In the preliminary round everyone meets everyone else, and the best four teams then move on to the semi-finals. The German curlers are taking part in the Winter Games for the first time in twelve years. In 2024 they became European champions in Finland.
