Record foreign capital reached the Mexican stock market in January

The appetite of foreigners for shares on the Mexican stock market skyrocketed in January, when the net inflow of 1,465.9 million dollars was recorded, the best arrival of flows since there was a report for the first month of the year.

According to the most recent data published by the Bank of Mexico (BdeM), the influx of capital from abroad aimed at purchasing shares in the Mexican stock market has accumulated four consecutive months.

The flow coincides with a January in which 10 historical highs were recorded for the price and quotation index (CPI), the main Mexican stock compendium.

Added to the positive inertia of metals companies, such as Grupo México and Peñoles, was greater participation by investors in other issuers, according to specialists.

The economic, exchange and stock market analysis area of ​​Monex explained that the inflow of capital was due to the performance of metals, which maintained a space in its extended upward trend, (although various projections for basic goods were exceeded).

He added that Mexico maintained the second best performance in Latin America at the start of 2026.

At the same time, the balance of non-resident variable income securities reached the highest level since it was recorded by the BdeM.

The position of non-residents in variable income securities increased in January 2026, registering an amount of 195 thousand 737.8 million dollars, which represented an annual increase of 60 thousand 430.2 million.

Global investors continue to favor the IPC as an emerging benchmark, Monex commented. He added that from local monetary policy to the geopolitical level on a global scale explain the flow of resources to the Mexican stock market this January.
