Joan Laporta announces his candidacy for the presidency of FC Barcelona with the motto ‘Defense Barça’

The former president of FC Barcelona Joan Laporta has announced that he will present this Tuesday, February 17, his candidacy for re-election as head of the Blaugrana club under the ‘Defensem el Barça’ campaign, in a presentation that will take place at Laporta’s electoral headquarters, located at Carrer Provença 173 in Barcelona at 1:00 p.m.

Laporta, who resigned seven days ago to be able to attend the elections, won the 14th presidential elections in 2021 with the ‘Estimem el Barça’ campaign, with a slogan very similar to that of the current process, achieving 54.28% of the votes.

In addition to Laporta, other pre-candidates who have expressed their intention to run are Víctor Font, leader of the ‘Nosaltres’ platform, Xavier Vilajoana, former manager during the Josep Maria Bartomeu era, and Marc Ciria, economist.

Currently, the electoral process allows members interested in presenting themselves as candidates to collect official support ballots from Sunday, February 15 to March 2, at the Barcelona Fan Support Office (OAB). To formalize a candidacy, a minimum of 2,337 signatures from partners are required.

The club’s electoral calendar provides that, after collecting support, the candidacies will be validated before the start of the official electoral campaign, in which the candidates will present their projects to the members.

The ‘Defensem el Barça’ platform is presented as the continuing option of Laporta’s project, with the majority of members of the previous Board of Directors who would repeat themselves in a new project focused on reinforcing the sporting, social and institutional identity of the club.
