Paula Badosa debuts with victory in Dubai and Jéssica Bouzas falls in the first round

The Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa has advanced to the second round of the Dubai tournament (United Arab Emirates), in the WTA 1,000 category and played on hard courts, after beating the Czech Katerina Siniakova (6-3, 7-5) this Monday in her debut, while Jéssica Bouzas said goodbye to the Swiss Belinda Bencic (2-6, 6-1, 6-2).

Badosa, a Dubai resident and current world number 70, took the lead in the match (2-0) and although Siniakova responded with a counterbreak, she broke her rival’s serve again to go 4-1 up.

In the seventh game, the Catalan survived five break points, but had to wait for the ninth, after wasting a set point to the rest in the previous one, to win the opening set.

Already in the second, both tennis players exchanged breaks in the seventh and eighth games, and in the eleventh the Spaniard achieved a vital break to close the fight after one hour and 46 minutes of play and meet in the second round with the Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, world number seven and exempt from playing the first round.

Meanwhile, Bouzas said goodbye to the Emirati competition after the number 13 in the WTA ranking, Belinda Bencic, managed to turn the match around. Two breaks helped the Galician to take the first set, but she was unable to break the Swiss tennis player’s serve any further in the rest of the match.

Thus, Bencic equalized the match by breaking the service of the world number 48 in the second set, and in the third she signed two more breaks and ended the duel after one hour and 41 minutes.
