Referee files criminal complaint after death threats

La Penna had shown yellow-red to Juve player Pierre Kalulu, who had already been warned, shortly before half-time at Milan’s home game in the San Siro Stadium on Saturday evening after an alleged foul. However, the slow motion showed that Kalulu did not touch his opponent Alessandro Bastoni at all. Since the video referee is only allowed to intervene in direct sending-offs, the decision remained.

Naturally, this caused a lot of conversation – but not only that. La Penna also reported evil threats against himself and his family, which is why he filed a complaint at his place of residence in Rome. The arbitrator, who is married and has two small children, is a lawyer by profession. According to Italian media reports, the police recommended that he stay at home for the time being. La Penna has been whistling in Serie A since 2018.
