Mexico has the lowest unemployment in the OECD

Mexico closed 2025 as the country with the lowest unemployment in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), with a rate of 2.6 percent, practically half of the organization’s average.

According to the OECD, unemployment among its member countries closed 2025 at an average of 5 percent, a relatively stable level since April 2022. However, there are contrasts between economies.

While Mexico recorded the lowest unemployment – ​​followed by Japan and Israel – Finland reported an overall unemployment rate of 10.3 percent, followed by Spain (10) and Colombia (8.5 percent).

When looking at unemployment among young people – aged 15 to 24 – the overall OECD rate more than doubles: 11.2 percent.

Mexico recorded the third lowest youth unemployment rate in the OECD: 5.7 percent of young people between 15 and 24 years old. Below are only Japan, with a rate of 2.4, and Israel, with 4.2 percent. Sweden, Spain, Chile and Finland exceed 20 percent, meaning that at least one in five young people is unemployed.

In Sweden, youth unemployment climbs to 23.6 percent; They are followed by Spain (23.4), Chile (22.6) and Finland (21.8).

Among the countries that make up the Mexico, United States, Canada Treaty (USMCA) disparities were also recorded.

In the United States the general unemployment rate was 4.4 percent and the youth unemployment rate was 10.45 percent, while in Canada these reached 6.8 and 13.3 percent, respectively, also at the end of 2025.
