Olympics: Ilkka Herola was disappointed

In advance even tipped for a gold medal fight Ilkka Herola had sold his land after Tuesday’s hill section.

Herola’s jump from suurmäki covered 130.5 meters, and he was seventh in the hill section. The difference to the leader was 32 seconds.

“It doesn’t look good. The medal fight is too far ahead,” Herola said.

“The jump was crap. You can’t get anywhere from it. The worst” of the big hill I’ve jumped from here.

Due to the conditions, the track is much faster on Tuesday than last week in the normal mountain race, where Herola was fifth. The hoses that go ahead determine the course of the race.

“If I ski Norway in the first round Jens Oftebrota 10 seconds to catch, the rest of the trip might be sad. However, it is my only chance,” said Herola.

Oftebro goes to the track in sixth place. Austria, for example, starts before him Johannes Lamparter and Thomas Rettenegger and Norway Andreas Skoglund.

Olympic medalist Eero Hirvonen leaves 11 seconds after Herola, but Herola did not feel that it was worth waiting for this.

“Then we will fight for places 4–6”, Herola said.

“It’s not an attractive solution at the Olympics.”

Hirvonen himself was satisfied.

A slice of 132.5 meters brought starting position number eight to skiing.

“The jump was good. I’ve pulled one similar in training. You have to be satisfied when you get the best performance in the competition,” said Hirvonen.

He would have hoped that an athlete would have come between him and Herola as an attraction, but that did not happen this time.

Wille Karhumaa was the 13th of the hill section.
