UIF agrees to collaborate with the National Lottery against money laundering

Yesterday, the federal government signed two collaboration agreements with the National Lottery and the government of Mexico City, to strengthen the prevention of operations with resources of illicit origin, as well as other crimes.

In the case of the National Lottery, the agreement was with the Ministry of Finance through the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) to “strengthen preventive capabilities within the scope of their respective powers, in congruence with the national regulatory framework on the prevention of money laundering.”

After signing the agreement, the National Lottery detailed that inter-institutional working groups are contemplated for the exchange of experiences and technical strengthening; the organization of courses, diplomas and training activities on the prevention and detection of operations with resources of illicit origin.

Separately, the Ministry of the Interior issued a coordination agreement with the government of Mexico City, with which the Financial Intelligence Unit of the capital (UIF-CDMX) will be able to consult the national database of the Unique Population Registry Code and the Civil Registry, for the integration of reports related to various crimes.

In the document, published yesterday in the Official Gazette of the Federationit is established that the capital agency may make use of both databases within the framework of investigations into cases of money laundering, operations with resources of illicit origin and financing of terrorism.

It may also assist with the Public Ministry in the collection of information to combat crimes committed by public servants, corruption or cover-up, as well as organized crime and operations with resources of illicit origin, among others.
