Stephen Colbert claims his own channel censored him, CBS denies

Comedian Stephen Colbertin hosted by CBS The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has hit the headlines again.

Colbert was supposed to interview a representative of the Democratic Party on his program on Monday James Talaricoa. Talarico is running for the Democratic nomination in the fall election to elect a new senator from Texas.

However, the interview was not shown on CBS, but was published on the YouTube channel of Colbert’s talk show.

Colbert has been criticized by the president Donald Trump harshly for years.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert ends in May. CBS said last summerthat it is “purely for financial reasons”.

However, the decision to stop has been suspected to be due to the fact that the Paramount company, which owns the CBS channel, was preparing a merger with another media company, i.e. Skydance, for which it needed the approval of the United States Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (FCC).

Monday on his show, Stephen Colbert brought up Talarico’s interview in a humorous monologue on his show. He was outspoken in his criticism of both CBS and the FCC.

According to Colbert, CBS lawyers would have prohibited him from interviewing Talarico on TV.

According to Colbert, the ban is related to the FCC regulation in force in the United States, which states that only one candidate cannot be featured in a TV or radio program during the election, but the counter-candidates must receive equal exposure.

However, it is specifically stated in the regulation that the instruction does not apply to news programs or television talk shows. In January, FCC Chairman Carr announced that he was considering waiving the exemption because some of the talk shows were, from his point of view, biased.

Officially, no change has been made to the regulation, but Colbert stated in his Monday program that CBS is acting “as if this had already happened”.

“I want to assure you that the decision was made purely for financial reasons,” Colbert joked.

Tuesday saw new twists and turns. CBS issued a statement denying that it had blocked Talarico’s interview from airing on the show.
