The choice of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner shows Sun PhuQuoc Airways’ orientation to develop its long-haul flight network. Belonging to the 787 Dreamliner wide-body aircraft line, the 787-9 model has a capacity of about 296 passengers and a maximum flight range of 14,010 km, allowing for continuous flights of up to 16 hours, creating conditions for opening direct flights connecting Phu Quoc with the US, key economic and tourist centers in Europe such as the UK, Czech Republic, France, Germany, the Middle East, CIS countries, Japan and Australia. in the future.

According to the manufacturer’s specifications, the 787-9 saves about 20-25% of fuel and reduces emissions compared to the previous generation, consistent with the direction of efficient and sustainable exploitation. Introducing this aircraft line into the airline’s fleet is expected to support the formation of direct transcontinental routes from Phu Quoc, thereby expanding the international connectivity of this destination.

In the context that Vietnam ranks 7th among the US’s largest trading partners in 2025, with a bilateral turnover of nearly 171 billion USD, large-scale contracts in high-tech fields such as aviation contribute to promoting bilateral economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and the US, showing the initiative of Vietnamese businesses in the global aviation value chain.

The $22.5 billion deal helps Sun PhuQuoc Airways improve its capacity to operate transcontinental routes, while also participating more deeply in the US aviation production and service value chain through Boeing’s production and supply activities. The order is assessed to contribute to creating more jobs and promoting production in the US, thereby strengthening economic cooperation between businesses of the two countries.

Expanding connection capacity with a fleet of wide-body aircraft is expected to create favorable conditions for the flow of tourists, investment and trade between the two countries, thereby contributing to the goal of improving competitiveness and strengthening economic relations between Vietnam and the US in a stable and sustainable direction.

According to Ms. Stephanie Pope, President and General Director of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, 40 787 Dreamliner aircraft are the first direct purchase order of Sun Phu Quoc Airways and also the largest Boeing wide-body aircraft order in Vietnam. “This order represents a vision to connect Phu Quoc with the world and build a high-end full-service airline. The 787 Dreamliner is the right aircraft line to accomplish that goal,” said Ms. Stephanie Pope.
