Representatives of 46 states, as well as the European Union, gathered in Washington for the first meeting of the Peace Council created by US President Donald Trump. Israel is represented by Foreign Minister Gideon Saar. The head of the “government of technocrats” operating in the Gaza Strip, Ali Shaat, also attended.

“We’ve put an end to eight wars, and the ninth has come – and it turned out to be the hardest. I thought it would be the easiest, but in war you never know. We are doing everything we can to provide a better future for the people of Gaza and the entire Middle East region,” Trump said.

The president called on Iran to make a “serious deal” with the United States, warning that otherwise “bad things will happen.” “In ten days it will become clear whether we can move forward. Iran cannot be allowed to have nuclear weapons,” the president said.

He expressed hope that Hamas will fulfill the terms of the Gaza settlement plan and stated the need to resolve the Lebanese problem. According to him, he strives for harmony in the Middle East.

“I am pleased to announce that Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan and Kuwait have donated more than $7 billion to help Gaza,” Trump said, adding that the United States is committing another $10 billion for this purpose.

Let us recall that the initial task of the council is the implementation of Trump’s plan for the Gaza Strip. However, the American leader sets more extensive tasks for him. It included Qatar and Türkiye, which Israel calls patrons of the terrorist group Hamas. However, attempts by the Jewish state to block their participation were unsuccessful.

One of the key issues in the second stage of the Trump plan is the disarmament of Hamas and its removal from power. There have been publications in the media according to which the group will be allowed to retain some of its weapons. However, Trump published a post on February 15: “Hamas must disarm completely.”
