García-Delgado Charges has reopened the debate on the birthplace of Christopher Columbus in the book ‘The origin of Columbus beyond DNA’ (Fundación Madina Mayurqa): ““He was certainly not Genoese, and most likely he was Majorcan.”

The book remembers, in this way, historical events such as the treatment of Don that the Catholic Monarchs gave to Columbus, something strictly reserved for the nobility. “It is more than unlikely that an unknown Genoese would have received this treatment“explains the author; or as in the famous Capitulations of Santa Fé – the contract that the Catholic Monarchs signed to Columbus for the expedition of discovery – the kings named Columbus Admiral, Governor General and Viceroy, positions that were reserved for the high nobility, so “It is hardly credible to think that they could be awarded to the son of a Genoese wool maker or tavern keeper who had not yet discovered anything, as proposed by the ‘Genoese theory’.“.

Another decisive fact that Carlos García-Delgado analyzes in the publication is the fact that the royal regulations of Castile prohibited a non-naturalized foreigner from accessing public positions, so a non-naturalized Genoese would not have been able to access the positions of Admiral, Governor General and Viceroy, a crucial fact to determine the origin of Columbus.

These are just some of the fifteen facts that García-Delgado analyzes in depth and that show that “there are no scientific arguments that support the hypothesis of the Genoese origin of Columbus.”

“No one, until today, has been able to prove that Columbus was Genoese. There is no scientifically rigorous evidence. “There is, however, evidence that Columbus could not have been the son of a Genoese wool maker.”points out the writer.

Based on the data investigated, Carlos García-Delgado affirms that, although it is not known where Columbus was born, it can be stated that “he was not Genoese nor was he the son of a wool miller; that he had a noble ancestry; that he was not born in 1451 but around 1459; and that his origin is located in some enclave of dominant non-Castilian or Italian speech, within the scope of the Crown of Aragon in 1492; that is, the Principality of Catalonia, the Kingdom of Valencia or the Kingdom of Mallorca”.
