The health committee promotes: 63.3 billion NIS for the health system in 2026

In the discussion it was said that in recent years 2,336 hospital beds were added in the various departments. In addition, 1,350 geriatric beds have been opened in the last five years, and hundreds more beds are expected to be opened in the coming years.

Bar Siman Tov detailed the ministry’s budget and said that it is divided into current activities, development, the government mental health hospitals and the general hospitals, as well as transfers to the health insurance funds. The budget proposal for 2026 is 63.3 billion NIS.

The original budget for 2025 was 59.1 billion NIS, and the approved budget was 61.4 billion NIS. The 2023 budget was revised from 44.6 to 45.2 billion NIS, and the 2024 budget came after revisions and transfer of surpluses to 57.5 billion NIS. According to him, the rate of utilization of the budget in recent years is about 95%-99%.

In addition, Bar Siman Tov presented a goal according to which by the year 2043 Israel will have 5.1 doctors per 1,000 inhabitants, compared to about 3.5 today. He pointed out that there is no significant increase in the number of doctors leaving abroad, and called on the Furia hospitals in Tiberias and Ziv in Safed to unite in order to increase the scope of activity.
