Police have launched an investigation into the alleged murder and arrested several suspects. According to the Lyon public prosecutor’s office, among them is an employee of a deputy from the left-wing party La France Insoumise (LFI).

The opposition is using the incident to accuse each other in the run-up to local elections next month and the presidential election next year. The chairman of the right-wing Rassemblement National (RN), Jordan Bardella, accused LFI boss Jean-Luc Mélenchon of opening the doors to parliament to suspected murderers.
