Labor force participation of Ukrainian women increased almost fivefold

A vast majority of Ukrainian displaced persons surveyed reported oral and written communication Expressive skills in German to have. 30 percent of those surveyed rate their knowledge of German as “advanced,” while 38 percent say they have basic knowledge.

Half of Ukrainians live in Vienna

In total, as of January 1st, over 94,000 Ukrainians were already living in Austria, including those who were already settled in this country before the Russian aggression. Half of them are based in Vienna. The population structure differs from that of the overall population: around 61 percent of Ukrainians in Austria are women, 39 percent are men (total population 51 to 49 percent), which is due to the limited exit opportunities for military-age men in Ukraine.

At the same time, the Ukrainian population is significantly younger than the total population in Austria: 30 percent are under 20 years old (total population: 19 percent), 58 percent are of working age between 20 and 59 years (total population: 53 percent). Only twelve percent of Ukrainians are 60 years old or older – less than half as many as the Austrian average (28 percent).
