A football player witnessed the death of a relative! He saw in the rearview mirror, the ambulance was reviving him for half an hour

Kosovo football representative Valon Berisha, an experienced midfielder who recently signed for Swiss Zurich, experienced a family tragedy by witnessing a terrible traffic accident in which his close relative lost his life. Berisha was driving in front of him and he saw a moment of fear in the rearview mirror, after which he helplessly tried to help.

Horror on the Austrian highway

The drama took place on Sunday morning, around eight hours and ten minutes on the A1 highway, known as the Westautobahn, in Upper Austria. Near the Lindach rest stop near Laakirchen, a 38-year-old Swiss national from Rothrist, who was closely related to Berisha, was driving the van. For reasons not yet determined, the vehicle suddenly veered from the traffic lane, landed on the road and crashed head-on into a wooden barrier for noise protection.

Valon Berisha was driving in a car directly in front of him. Seeing a terrible sight in the rearview mirror, he immediately stopped his vehicle and ran towards the crushed van. Together with the other drivers who stopped, Berisha desperately tried to help the accident-prone child and provided first aid. until the emergency services arrive. The medical team that arrived at the scene of the accident fought for the 38-year-old’s life for almost thirty minutes, but despite that. despite all efforts and attempts at resuscitation, they could only declare death on the spot. The football player, overwhelmed by pain, watched everything, and the Red Cross crisis intervention team immediately took care of him.

A trip that turned into a nightmare

According to available information, this trip was not touristic, but rather had a practical purpose that makes the whole tragedy even sadder. Namely, Berisha only recently, during the winter transfer window, moved from the Austrian LASK to the ranks of the Swiss FC Zürich. He and his cousin were on their way to move the football player’s personal belongings from Austria to Switzerland. The trip that was supposed to mark the beginning of a new chapter in his career turned into a nightmare that will mark him forever.

The club stood by its player

Only a day after the tragedy, on Monday, FC Zürich also announced. The Swiss club published an official statement in which it expressed its condolences and confirmed that it will provide its player with all possible help.

– FC Zürich is deeply shaken by the tragic accident in Austria in which a close family member of our player Valon Berisha was killed. Valon Berisha himself was not directly involved in the accident, but he witnessed it. In this extremely difficult situation, we express our sincere condolences to the family and all relatives. FC Zürich firmly stands by Valon Berisha in these difficult moments and provides him with all the necessary support – the club announced.

A life marked by football and a difficult fate

This tragedy is just another heavy blow in the life of Valon Berisha, who belongs to the generation of Kosovar athletes whose childhood and upbringing were marked by war and exile. He was born in Malmö, Sweden, where his parents fled from Kosovo. His football talent took him to Norway, where he played twenty matches before Kosovo was admitted to UEFA in 2016. Then, like many other players from Kosovo, he decided to change his sports citizenship and play for the country of his ancestors.

His career took him through numerous famous clubs. He left the deepest mark in Red Bull Salzburg, where he spent six years, and also played for Viking, Lazio, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Reims, Melbourne City and until recently LASK, before arriving in Zurich ten days ago.
