Apple presented the new iOS 26.4

Video episodes are coming to the Apple Podcasts application, and the idea is that within the same episode, you can smoothly switch between audio and video listening and viewing modes. Video podcasts use HLS streaming, and Apple states that they can be downloaded for offline viewing, which is convenient on the road or when you have no signal.

iOS 26.4 also brings end-to-end encryption testing for RCS messages, but for now it’s limited to beta scenarios and not available to everyone, depending on device and carrier. On the security side, ‘Stolen Device Protection’ is turned on by default, so your iPhone will ask for Face ID or Touch ID for sensitive actions like accessing saved passwords or changing accounts.

Another novelty is CarPlay video playback in the car, but only while the vehicle is parked, which is intended as entertainment while waiting or charging the car. For the first time, CarPlay also gets access to third-party AI services, which is Apple’s signal that AI is moving into driving, again with restrictions that should keep the focus on safety.

TechCrunch states that the public release of iOS 26.4 is expected in March or April, and in this beta there is still no ‘new Siri’ that many have been waiting for, as major changes have apparently been delayed.
