Louvre: the reorganization mission announced by Rachida Dati abandoned, according to deputies

Rachida Dati recorded on Monday, during her closed-door hearing at the Assembly, the abandonment of the mission to reorganize the Louvre which she had announced at the end of December but which had never started its work, indicated two deputies.

In mid-December, the Minister of Culture announced that she had entrusted Philippe Jost, supervisor of the Notre-Dame restoration project, with a mission aimed at “in-depth reorganization” of the museum, in turmoil since the burglary of October 19.

This mission to the management of the Louvre was to begin in January and unveil initial recommendations at the end of February but this schedule was not kept, giving rise to doubts about its future.

In mid-January, Rachida Dati’s entourage spoke of a simple “lag” linked to the movement of Louvre staff initiated since mid-December, while a source close to the matter assured that the mission had been canceled.

The social conflict “still ongoing at the Louvre” responsible?

Heard by the commission of inquiry into museum security, Ms. Dati announced the abandonment of this mission, indicated its president Alexandre Portier (LR) and Alexis Corbière (ex-LFI). “It was abandoned because the reflection on the reorganization of the Louvre advanced independently of this mission,” detailed Mr. Portier, according to whom the governance of the museum is the subject of an “ongoing reorganization”.

Asked about its modalities, the MP referred to possible government announcements. According to Alexis Corbière, the minister justified the abandonment of the mission by the social conflict still ongoing at the Louvre even if, according to him, “we do not really see the link between the two”. The minister’s entourage did not react immediately.

According to the two deputies, the minister, leaving the government to run for mayor of Paris, also indicated during her hearing that “17 measures” had been taken to reform the governance of the Louvre.
