Turkey is preparing for the possibility of an escalation on the border with Iran

In recent years, the NATO alliance has activated the air control planes stationed in Turkey for the purpose of monitoring both Russia and Iran. However, now, according to the same sources who asked to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the issue, there has been an increase in the number of missions focused on Iran.

According to them, Ankara is preparing for the possibility of an American attack led directly against Iran. Such a move, according to the estimates presented, may lead to Tehran being required to make concessions on various issues – chief among them the reduction of the nuclear program – and in the case of refusal, even lead to a wider escalation. At the same time, Turkey is working to encourage both sides to avoid exacerbating tensions.

Emergency scenarios and preparations on the border

In Ankara, there is growing concern about the possibility of such a military confrontation. According to the sources, Turkey fears that a campaign against Iran will lead to a new wave of refugees to its territory – mainly Afghan and Pakistani citizens currently living in Iran. Turkey already hosts close to three million Syrian refugees today, and the authorities estimate that the arrival of more refugees from Iran could significantly burden the Turkish economy, which is facing difficulties.

According to the same sources, Turkish authorities have updated their emergency plans for the possibility of a large-scale conflict. Among the scenarios being considered: the establishment of refugee camps near the border or even entry into Iranian territory in order to stem the flow of refugees – a step that will only be considered in the event of the formation of a governing vacuum in Iran.
