The Prime Minister requested to complete Long Thanh airport in the first half of the year

In the Notice dated February 26, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested ministries and agencies, especially Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) to review the remaining work volume at the Long Thanh international airport project phase 1.

At the same time, the parties need to develop detailed plans, rational and scientific construction to ensure project completion in the first half of 2026.

“Relevant units are responsible for the progress, quality and safety of the project. Principles of strictly handling violations and avoiding congestion during project implementation,” the notice stated.

Long Thanh Airport is a key national project, with an area of ​​about 5,000 hectares and a total investment of nearly 337,000 billion VND (about 16 billion USD). In phase 1, the project invests in two runways and a terminal with a capacity of 25 million passengers. Some items were completed at the end of last year and are expected to operate commercially from the middle of this year.

According to the investment policy, phase two includes the third runway, passenger terminal 2 with a capacity of 25 million passengers per year, and synchronous infrastructure works. ACV, an enterprise with more than 95.41% State capital, is the investor in both phases.

ACV has a charter capital of more than 35,828 billion VND, of which the Ministry of Finance is the agency representing the State capital, holding 95.41%. According to the consolidated financial report of the fourth quarter of 2025, ACV recorded the cost of construction in progress of Long Thanh airport at the end of last year as 34,190 billion VND, an increase of more than 21,400 billion VND compared to the beginning of the year.

In addition to Long Thanh airport phase 1, last year, the whole country completed and put into operation 3,345 km of highways, 1,701 km of coastal roads and many other key projects. Ministries and localities also inaugurated, started construction, and opened 564 works and projects in 34 provinces and cities with a total investment of more than 5.14 million billion VND.

In addition, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also asked ministries and localities to speed up progress, synchronously complete infrastructure, and soon put into operation many highways, airports, and seaports. For example, Hanoi and Bac Ninh accelerated the approval of the Feasibility Study Report for the Gia Binh airport connection project in February for early construction. An Giang is assigned to direct investors to speed up the implementation of the project to expand and upgrade Phu Quoc Airport.

For projects that are being prepared for investment, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Construction, relevant localities, VEC and investors to review and propose investment plans and upgrade and complete expressway routes that have been and are being invested in. The provinces of Cao Bang, Phu Tho, Son La, Dien Bien, and Lai Chau completed procedures to approve investment policies for expressway projects in the area in the first quarter.

With ongoing investment projects, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, Tuyen Quang, Lang Son, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Dong Nai, An Giang, Ca Mau need to completely resolve problems to hand over the entire remaining premises to key projects in the area in February.

Localities also need to speed up site clearance progress with projects to renovate and expand important seaports such as Cai Mep – Thi Vai port, Lach Huyen, Lien Chieu… Projects to renovate and expand airports and airports of Quang Tri, Phu Cat, Con Dao, Tho Chu must also be completed to meet schedule, put into operation soon, but must ensure quality and flight safety.
