What is the price of Starlink satellite Internet service?

The cost of using Starlink satellite Internet varies between countries, according to each stage and service package.

Starlink is the Internet service of SpaceX – an aerospace technology company founded by billionaire Elon Musk in 2002. Unlike fiber optic Internet, information is not transmitted by cable network, but transmitted directly between the receiver located at the user’s home and the satellite in orbit. The signal is then relayed through other satellites or Starlink ground stations to connect to the global Internet.

To use Starlink, users must pay two main amounts: the cost of purchasing a satellite signal transceiver and a periodic subscription fee.

Starlink’s Standard Kit includes satellite receiver dishes, wifi routers, cables and installation brackets, with prices listed on the website from 349 to 599 USD, depending on the market. Of which, 349 USD is the most popular price for a home service package.

In some countries, Starlink has applied a hardware discount or subsidy program to encourage service registration. For example, in April 2025, the company sold equipment sets for 0 VND in Italy, Germany, Spain, some areas in Australia, Canada and the UK. The condition is that users must register to use the service for 12 months, with a fee of 80 USD/month.

Mr. Doan Quang Hoan, Vice President of the Vietnam Radio and Electronics Association, said the cost of manufacturing satellite Internet connection terminals usually ranges from 500 to 1,000 USD. However, Starlink sells for less than 500 USD as a tactic “to penetrate the market”.

Once the device is available, users pay a monthly subscription to maintain a connection within the speed range of the subscription plan. Starlink applies a package fee, not based on usage capacity.

For individual customers, the most popular is the household package. In the US, this package costs about 120 USD per month. In Europe, prices are usually lower, like in Germany and France between 40 and 70 Euros. In Japan, the fare is around 6,000-7,000 Yen, equivalent to 45-50 USD.

In Southeast Asia, service prices are also adjusted based on the general income level, in the Philippines it is about 2,700 pesos (50 USD) per month, and in Indonesia it is 750,000 Rupiah (45 USD).

In addition to the family package, Starlink offers a business package with higher rates, in exchange for the ability to serve multiple devices and prioritize bandwidth. The company also has mobile, marine, and air packages, but the prices are high due to the requirement of specialized equipment.

Including equipment and subscription fees, the total amount for the first year of using Starlink satellite Internet is about 1,000 USD (25 million VND), higher than traditional fiber optic Internet (several million VND per year). Therefore, Starlink is only considered an alternative solution in areas that do not have a stable terrestrial telecommunications infrastructure.

At the December 2025 press conference of the Ministry of Science and Technology, when asked about the level of impact of the service, the representative of the Department of Telecommunications commented that satellite Internet supports ground infrastructure, ensures communication in wave-concave areas and is especially useful in natural disaster prevention because it does not depend on ground transmission lines.

“Satellite Internet is an important backup channel when storms and floods occur,” the Department of Telecommunications said.

Starlink is the first foreign enterprise that Vietnam has agreed to pilot satellite Internet services. In mid-February, after completing procedures, the company was officially licensed in Vietnam, but has not announced the implementation time nor the price applied to the domestic market.
