Mechelen N-VA not happy with criticism of Racing chairman: “In politics it is best to be friends with everyone”

“We regret the attack that the RCM chairman launched on councilor Arnout Geys and by extension our entire faction. Geys acted like a good director and asked for additional explanation in the public interest. The majority followed him in adjourning the point, something that rarely happens,” says party leader Freya Perdaens.

It reminds councilor Marc Hendrickx of one of his interventions during the previous administrative period. “I then also postponed an item about the extension of the city guarantee to KV Mechelen,” he says. Hendrickx, a fervent Malinwa supporter, also asked for more explanation. “Which afterwards meant a win-win for the city and the club in terms of transparency,” he says.

“If the chairman had previously communicated the explanation he is now providing to the entire opposition, things might have turned out differently. In politics, it is best to be friends with everyone, not just the majority. The chairman seems to have forgotten that for a while,” say Perdaens and Hendrickx. They indicate that they want to smooth out the wrinkles again. “Now let’s look at everything and see if we can figure it out.”
