On the second day of the American-Israeli offensive in Iran, the regional conflagration threatens maritime traffic. In this context, the European Union announced this Sunday evening that it was strengthening its military mission in the Red Sea, called Aspides, with two French ships deployed, said an EU diplomat.
The strikes carried out since Saturday morning have notably led to the death of several regime dignitaries, including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran responded with missiles, hitting Israel as well as countries in the Middle East where the United States has military bases.
The Strait of Hormuz, through which some 20% of global oil consumption passes, has been closed to ship traffic by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. The Red Sea, which leads to the Suez Canal, could also be at risk.
