The United Kingdom will allow the use of its bases for attacks against Iranian missiles

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced this Sunday that his country has agreed to the United Kingdom’s request for the use of British bases to attack and degrade Iran’s missile launch systems.

“The only way to stop the threat is to destroy the source of the missiles, in their warehouses, or the launchers used to fire them,” Starmer argued in a recorded message published this Sunday.

“The United States has requested permission to use American bases for a specific and limited defensive purpose,” argued Starmer, who highlights that they have decided to accept this request “to prevent Iran from firing missiles throughout the region, killing innocent civilians, endangering the lives of British people and attacking countries that are not involved,” he highlighted.

Starmer has stressed that they have not joined the initial attacks against Iran “and right now we will not join the offensive.” “I want to be very clear: we all remember the mistakes of Iraq and we have learned those lessons,” he stressed.

In addition, Starmer has announced that there are already British fighter jets in the air that “have already successfully intercepted Iranian attacks”, although he has stressed that the United Kingdom is still not participating in the US-Israeli military offensive against Iran.

“Our decision for the United Kingdom not to get involved in the attacks on Iran has been deliberate. Above all because we believe that the best way forward for the region and the world is a negotiated solution” and that includes Iran’s renunciation of the development of nuclear weapons, he argued.

However, Starmer denounces the “even more reckless and dangerous approach for civilians” and recalls that there are at least 200,000 British citizens in the region, which justifies the decision to support US attacks in the face of this “urgent threat.”
