MBS convinced Trump that the regime in Iran should be overthrown

In the critical moments preceding the outbreak of the war with Iran, the pressure on Trump came precisely from Riyadh, a source in the Saudi royal family told N12 this evening (Sunday). According to him, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman worked behind the scenes to convince the White House to go all the way – not just to harm, but to go for a move aimed at overthrowing the regime.

According to him, the contacts between Washington and Riyadh matured into actual coordination in the days before the decision. “There was political and security coordination between Riyadh and Washington about 48 hours before the war,” said the source in the Saudi palace in a conversation with N12.

“Trump hesitated in the decision, and planned to leave Israel alone to enter into a significant war, while he himself would only participate in a limited attack against a nuclear site that Netanyahu pointed to,” continued the source in the Saudi royal family who spoke to us. “He also intended to keep the forces as a deterrent and as a means of pressure, in order to force a new nuclear agreement – under which the US will enrich uranium for them and supply it, and supervise their miners.”

But according to the same Saudi source, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman pushed for an offensive line. “Bin Salman convinced Trump that temporary solutions are not helpful,” the source said. He detailed that the heir to the throne convinced the American president “that it is necessary to destroy the nuclear capabilities, the missile capabilities and the military capabilities, and to overthrow this regime – which according to its policy tried to drag the entire region into escalation.”

The source pointed out that this was also the direction that bin Salman encouraged behind the scenes: a targeted attack not only on the infrastructure, but on the top of the government itself. “Of course, the elimination of the supreme leader and his potential successors, and the security leaders from the first, second and third ranks – so that a new regime will be built from the ruins, from which the face of Iran will begin to be rebuilt.”

“As you can see, what actually happened is madness: attacks on civilian targets in all the Gulf countries, attacks on American targets in the region,” he added. “The current ruling establishment in Iran must not be given another opportunity to grow stronger. This is also the line that is being used towards Trump now, because he may want to return to negotiations and end the war – which critics perceive as a reckless and dangerous move.”

He pointed out that this is the main concern now for Riyadh and the Gulf. “The fear is that Trump will make a mistake and give them a chance to recover again, while the danger, according to this view, needs to be rooted out before it spreads again in the region,” explained the source. “Especially against the background of the possibility that in the future, after Trump’s term and Netanyahu’s term, another leader will arrive, like Obama in the past – and bring the region back to agreements with the existing Iranian regime.”
