The Israeli company Brain.Q is launching a new service for stroke patients

The BRAIN.Q company, which developed a non-invasive treatment system based on artificial intelligence for brain rehabilitation and health, announced today the opening of the first clinic of its kind in the world to strengthen brain rehabilitation and functional independence. The clinic will help patients maximize the rehabilitation potential after brain injuries, such as a stroke, and preserve long-term brain health through home, intensive and daily care.

The core of BRAIN.Q technology is a helmet that produces electromagnetic therapy at low intensity and varying frequencies. These are designed to imitate the patterns of electrical activity of damaged neural networks, thereby enhancing and accelerating the reorganization of the networks in the brain. An intensive rehabilitation program customized for independent practice is synchronized to the electromagnetic therapy.

The unique treatment protocol is managed in real time from the cloud by a model trained using AI on databases that map electrical brain activity, with the aim of providing tailored treatment for each patient. The system was designed with advanced human engineering that allows autonomous use by the patient and his family members. The treatment is managed by a virtual system that monitors the information in real time, and enables ongoing remote control and accompaniment by an accompanying clinician, who dynamically adjusts the treatment to the pace of progress.

The solution was defined as “groundbreaking” both by the FDA in the United States and by the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the European Union. Recently, the system received a commercial medical label in the European Union (CE) as well as an AMR approval from the Israeli Ministry of Health as a treatment to reduce disability after a stroke (subject to a doctor’s prescription).

The program launched in Israel is based on a model built and tested in controlled clinical trials at 15 of the leading medical centers in the world, including centers at Harvard, Cornell, Columbia, UCLA and other universities. The launch comes amid the publication of new clinical results at the American Heart and Stroke Association (AHA) World Stroke Conference. The results show that 34% of the patients who started the treatment with moderate to severe disability (in the weeks and months after the stroke), reached full functional independence within a few months of treatment – this compared to only 12% in the control group in a statistically significant way. This means that the electromagnetic therapy triples the chance of getting rid of the disability. In addition, about 85% of the patients who received the combined treatment showed a significant improvement in functional independence.

The BRAIN.Q clinic recently started operating in a limited format, and it already cooperates with neurological clinics and selected therapists in Israel who undergo dedicated training. The company, which has performed over 8,000 therapeutic sessions to date, reports a very high safety profile with no unusual events throughout its entire period of activity.

The clinic responds to a critical need that has remained without a satisfactory solution until now: rehabilitation and long-term brain health – a field that concerns hundreds of thousands of people in Israel. The accessibility of the intensive treatment to the patient’s home allows for a therapeutic sequence without stopping the daily routine of the patient and his family. The service operates on a monthly subscription model (minimum 6 months). After a prescription from a doctor, an adjustment meeting is held with the accompanying clinician, the system is handed over to the patient and he undergoes training for independent use, with ongoing remote monitoring by a clinical team.

At the same time as the launch, BRAIN.Q announces the appointment of Prof. Jeffrey L. Saver (Jeffrey L. Saver, MD) to the company’s medical director. Prof. Seiber, head of the UCLA University Stroke Center and one of the world’s most prominent researchers in modern neurology (with over 1,040 scientific publications), will lead the strategy and supervision of the company’s clinics.

Prof. Jeffrey L. Saber, the medical director of BRAIN.Q: “Israel is one of the most advanced medical and scientific ecosystems in the world, and it is the natural place to launch such a groundbreaking model, which will later be replicated in other markets. After years of dramatic progress in the acute treatment of stroke, the long-term rehabilitation phase remains the missing link in the health care system. Over the past few years, I have led the clinical trials that tested the system at the leading institutions in the US, and I saw up close how it enables a new treatment model – Evidence-based and focused on brain plasticity – which puts the patient at the center.”

Yotam Drexler, co-founder and CEO of BRAIN.Q: “The brain is our most valuable resource. As someone who experienced up close, with my four grandparents, the impact of brain damage, I know that life after a stroke changes from end to end for the patient and his environment. The launch of BRAIN.Q’s innovative service is a significant step in our vision to provide a reality-changing treatment that promotes and preserves long-term brain health.” BRAIN.Q, which operates in several countries around the world, is supported by prominent venture capital funds and strategic entities in Israel and the US, including: Hanaco Ventures, Peregrine Ventures, OurCrowd and Dexcel Pharma.
