Dubai: flights will resume in a “limited” manner this Monday evening, after three days of cancellations

Flights will resume on a “limited” basis Monday evening from Dubai airports, three days after the first cancellations due to the war in the Middle East, the operator announced.

“Dubai Airports announces a limited resumption of flights from Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central Airport – Al Maktoum International (DWC) from this evening, Monday March 2, 2026,” the airports operator said in a statement.

Emirates and low-cost carrier flydubai both said they would resume some flights on Monday evening. Etihad Airways, which operates from Abu Dhabi, announced a resumption of flights on Tuesday.

Precautionary measure

On Saturday, the first day of the war, the United Arab Emirates announced that it had closed its airspace “temporarily and partially” as an exceptional precautionary measure. In response to the Israeli-American attack on its territory, Iran targeted the Gulf region which hosts American bases.

Airports in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and Manama were also targeted. The unprecedented bombings also targeted civilian infrastructure: residential buildings, hotels and ports, shaking a region long perceived as a refuge from the conflicts in the Middle East.

Authorities have reported one death in the Emirati capital Abu Dhabi during an “incident” at the airport. Dubai Main Airport (DXB) is the second busiest in the world, behind Atlanta in the United States, according to the Airports Council International. The airspace closures have hit a vital sector, with the airline industry accounting for around a third of the emirate’s economy.
