Sebastián Gómez returns and reinforces Coritiba in the Brasileirão

Coritiba will have steering wheel reinforcement Sebastian Gomez for the next round of the Brazilian Championship. Having recovered from a muscle injury to the back of his thigh, the captain returned to training with the group last week, at CT da Graciosa, and should be available to coach Fernando Seabra for the game against Corinthianson the 11th, at 9:30 pm, at Neo Química Arena.

Sebas felt pain and left the field during halftime of the 2-1 comeback victory over Cruzeiro, in the second round of the Brasileirão. Since then, Coxa has only scored one point — a draw with Chapecoense — and suffered defeat to São Paulo. In the same period, the team drew twice with Operário and ended up eliminated from the Campeonato Paranaense.

The Colombian’s absence was felt. To fill the gap, Seabra used Vini Paulista and even tested striker Lavega as a second midfielder. Still, the team lost consistency in midfield.

In addition to his leadership on the field, Sebastián Gómez is one of the main physical highlights of the squad, with some of the best strength and endurance levels on the team.

Seabra speaks at a time of decision

After the defeat to São Paulo, last Wednesday (25), in the fourth round of the Brasileirão, Coritiba reached the fourth consecutive game without a win in the season. Eliminated from the State Championship, the team will now have a longer period of preparation before facing Corinthians.

Coach Fernando Seabra attributed the fluctuation to the tight schedule and highlighted that, for the first time this year, he will have time to work with the full group.

“We will finally have the possibility of working, because we had a pre-season of just four days of training before New Year’s, with a fraction of the group. Then we returned to work at the beginning of January and had nine training sessions. From then on, there were ten games in a row, every three or four days. So, the possibility of everyone receiving content together was greatly hampered”, he stated.

The coach also highlighted that the reinforcements arrived in stages, which made it difficult to collectively build the team. “The players arrived little by little. Now we have a much more complete group and we will have the possibility of two weeks of training. I really believe in training as a factor of transformation and stabilization of performance. The possibility of training, playing and returning to training after the game, recovering and training again. When this cycle happens, it is the moment in which the team manages to raise its level. Still, we managed to raise our level, we are evolving”, he concluded.
