The Euroleague suspends two matches due to the “closure of airspace” due to the conflict in the Middle East

The Euroleague announced this Monday the suspension of the Maccabi Tel Aviv-Hapoel Tel Aviv and Partizan Belgrade-Dubai Basketball matches, corresponding to matchday 30 of the regular phase of the competition and scheduled for this Thursday, due to “the current situation in the region”, as well as the “impossibility of traveling after the temporary closure of airspace” due to the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.

“The matches have been suspended due to the current situation in the region and the resulting impossibility of traveling following the temporary closure of airspace,” the competition said in a statement, explaining that it “will evaluate with the affected teams the best possible options to reschedule the matches.”

From the organization, which was already forced to suspend this Tuesday’s meeting between Hapoel Tel Aviv and Paris Basketball, initially scheduled in December and which was postponed due to the impossibility of the French team being able to fly to Istanbul due to the war in Gaza, they indicate that they will follow “the latest events closely and will maintain constant communication” with all authorities to guarantee the safety and well-being of the people involved.

For its part, Hapoel Tel Aviv reported that they have received the official notification “on their way to Athens” and will continue from there on their journey to Sofia (Bulgaria), “where a complete environment will be reestablished that will provide the team with the support and conditions necessary for its success.”
