Anti-peeping of Galaxy S26 Ultra is no different from a 300,000 VND sticker

The S26 Ultra’s Privacy Display screen can prevent peeping at two levels, by region, and does not reduce display quality as much as regular stickers.

Besides a series of AI features, anti-peeping is the most special equipment on the newly launched Galaxy S26 Ultra by Samsung and is discussed a lot on forums and social networking groups. “S26 Ultra is the S25 Ultra with a screen protector,” Truong Thanh Tung account posted in a group using Android phones and received hundreds of controversial comments in recent days.

Anti-peeping stickers have been a popular accessory for many years, priced at 300,000-500,000 VND depending on the brand. All are manufactured by third-party accessory companies, most from China. Meanwhile, Samsung is the first company to launch a phone with an integrated screen that is anti-peeping, can be turned on and off via software and does not require additional accessories.

According to technology expert Doan Hoang Son, through practical testing and using a microscope to observe, Privacy Display technology is a combination of carefully calculated control software and screen hardware. The pixels turn on and off dynamically when changing modes to enable the feature of reducing the viewing angle of the area on the screen. The way the feature works is greatly different from the way of using regular stickers and has many outstanding advantages.

How do anti-peeping stickers work?

Most anti-peeping screen protectors use some form of Micro Louver technology, which blocks light from the display at certain angles. This method works similar to the principle of blinds, but at a super small size. Inside the patch contains thousands of ultra-thin black optical curtains arranged parallel to each other. When holding the camera and looking directly at it, light from the screen goes straight through the gaps in the “curtain” to the normal user’s eyes. However, when someone looks in from an angle (usually exceeding a 30-degree angle), the microscopic curtains will block the path of light, causing them to only see a dark screen.

Because the Micro Louver layer blocks light, the screen is significantly darker, about 20-30% compared to the original. In addition to a poorer experience, this also makes the device consume more battery if you want to achieve the same brightness. The colors are also less bright than usual and there is always a slight feeling of glare when used.

Anti-peeping stickers are provided by third-party accessory manufacturers, but the most expensive types can only limit security along one axis (left, right or top, bottom). If you try to do four dimensions, the screen brightness will decrease sharply, up to about 50%, so this type is not an option. Tiny optical stripes cause the eyes to adjust more, causing fatigue if used continuously for a long time.

Another inherent disadvantage of screen protectors is that they are always on the device at all times, even when not needed. Users can only “turn off” by peeling off the sticker and cannot reuse it, while Samsung phones can turn on and off with just one touch.

Privacy Display overcomes most of the disadvantages

Galaxy S26 Ultra’s screen content security technology is researched and controlled at the pixel level on the screen. The Korean company has been carefully prepared, since 2020 it has filed 150 patents related to Flex Magic Pixel (FMP). At the core of FMP is the panel design technology and precision deposition process that controls the sub-pixels, each just a few micrometers in size and the basic units that make up the display, to control the spread of light.

Simply put, screen protectors use “curtains” to cover the light source while Samsung screens can control the light source itself.

Autonomy in controlling pixels helps Samsung be more flexible with anti-peeping features as well as overcome most of the disadvantages of anti-peeping stickers. First, it can be turned on and off when needed with just one touch, flexibly depending on the space, conditions as well as the owner’s needs.

According to expert Hoang Son, the good thing about Privacy Display is that it can cover a small area on the screen, such as notifications, password input boxes or depending on the application, something that a screen protector cannot. In addition, this technology can limit viewing angles both horizontally and vertically.

Meanwhile, through practical testing, expert Nguyen Ngoc Duy Luan also said that when Privacy Display is turned on, the S26 Ultra screen reduces a little in visibility but not significantly. The device also allows choosing two different protection modes (comprehensive and normal) but also corresponds to a slight reduction in display quality. Brightness and color when this feature is turned on or off are not easy to distinguish from normal usage conditions. Maintaining display quality is an outstanding advantage of the feature on Samsung phones compared to using stickers.
