The profits obtained last year by financial groups operating in Mexico increased 2.27 percent in real terms (deducting inflation), totaling 322,815 million pesos, according to the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV).

In 2024, the financial consortia obtained profits of 304,412 million pesos.

These institutions are large consortia that bring together different businesses in the sector under the same structure: banks, brokerage houses, insurance companies, retirement fund managers and other entities that offer credit, savings, investment and protection. That is, it is not just banks, but corporations that concentrate various financial services and operate in a coordinated manner.

Their weight in the economy is high because a large part of the money that is saved and lent in the country circulates through them. They are the ones who channel resources to families and companies, finance projects and move investments.

22 financial groups operate in Mexico, and the most notable are BBVA (the one with the greatest presence), Banamex, Banorte, Santander, HSBC, Inbursa, Citi México and Scotiabank, among others.

These consortia reported total assets of 15 trillion 674 thousand 936 million pesos at the end of last year, a figure 3.1 percent higher than the 15 trillion 197 thousand 390 million registered in 2024.

The total assets of financial groups are the set of assets and rights they possess, as well as the resources they have placed in the economy. These include the credit portfolio granted to families and companies, investments in securities, available cash and other financial instruments, that is, everything they manage and have put to work.

According to information from the CNBV, at the end of 2025 the financial margin – which results mainly from the difference between the interest charged to debtors and those paid to savers – was 801 thousand 134 million pesos, an amount 2.7 percent higher in real terms than the 751 thousand 915 million reported at the end of the previous year.

Thus, income from interest collection reached a balance of one trillion 619 thousand 596 million pesos, an amount 4.66 percent lower than that reported at the end of 2024, when it was one trillion 634 thousand 914 million pesos.

The total balance of the credit portfolio of financial groups reached 7 billion 119 thousand 721 million pesos, an amount 2.6 percent higher than the 6 billion 688 thousand 69 million reported in December, but last year.

Meanwhile, the delinquency rate was 2.04 percent, an increase of 0.12 percentage points compared to 1.92 percent in 2024.
