The British female tourist fell in love with the musician thanks to a date on the yacht

In the summer of 2024, Jodie Hughes, a female tourist with dual British and Irish citizenship, came to Edinburgh, Scotland to attend Fringe, the world’s largest street art festival. Her trip was only for the purpose of enjoying comedy and music shows. Jodie had no intention of finding love and didn’t think she would fall in love with a strange street musician.

Things changed when she stopped on the Royal Mile and recognized two artists she had met a few years ago in Dublin, Ireland. After proactively starting a conversation with the guitarist, Jodie learned that he would come to Paris, where she lives, in the next three weeks. The two joked that they would meet again in the French capital.

Two days later, they had their first date. He talked about his job performing on a cruise ship and invited her to join the upcoming 12-day cruise. Because they had only known each other for a few hours, Jodie was not in a hurry to answer but wanted to wait and see how the relationship progressed at the date in Paris.

The second date took place in the French capital. The male musician continued to persuade her to accompany him on sea trips. A month later, they met again in Portsmouth and boarded a ship to begin a nearly two-week journey to explore the Mediterranean.

Jodie admitted that she had sympathy for her new boyfriend, even though she considered boarding a yacht with him “the most daring thing”. She understands that the trip can become a romantic memory, or it can also be a disaster.

Previously, British female tourists often chose cheap motels, so they were overwhelmed when they boarded the yacht. “The ship is stunningly beautiful and the most luxurious accommodation I have ever experienced,” she said.

During the 12 days on the ship, Jodie watched musical performances, exercised every morning with a view of the ocean and explored many cities and islands along the journey. Abundant entertainment facilities on the ship help her have her own space instead of always traveling with her boyfriend. Jodie said her positive hunch about the musician in Edinburgh was completely correct. The trip that she compared to a “crazy date” has become a romantic reality.

During this time, the two gradually learned about each other’s interests, habits and pace of life. Although living together in a small room in the middle of the ocean can be challenging for many couples, Jodie affirms that they have “managed well”. In their free time, they both chat, watch the sunset on the deck or dance in the rain in an empty square in Lisbon, Portugal. The female tourist shared that this was the happiest time because “almost every day I laughed to the point of tears” and “had never laughed so much in my life”.

However, on the day she left the ship, she still wasn’t sure where their relationship stood, nothing was certain. Jodie also prepared many questions before saying goodbye.

Six weeks after that trip, she once again went to Edinburgh to visit him. They spent an early Christmas together on another cruise in the Caribbean.

“It’s been almost 18 months now, and that adventure, as well as our love story, continues to move forward,” Jodie said.
