The Finns grabbed medals at the World Junior Championships

Wednesday provided cause for celebration when the hill jumper Sofia Mattilabiathlonist Inka Hämäläinen and a cross-country skier Anton Kemppi are celebrating World Cup medals in their own sports.

Norwegian Lillehammer competes in cross-country skiing, combined and ski jumping.

Mattila, who competed in the women’s HS98 normal hill, was in eighth place after the first round, but the 97-meter cut in the second round sent the Finnish jumper to third place.

Mattila jumped 99 meters in the first round, but lost points due to a weak landing.

Finns also participated in the competition Julia Aikiwhose ranking was eighth.

The Czech won the competition Shuttle Indrackovaand Norway won the silver Ingvild Synnöve Midtskogen.

Mattila, 19, participated in the Milan–Cortina Olympics in February. There, his ranking was 44th on the normal hill and 39th on the large hill.

Cross-country skiing great talent Kemppi, 18, also won bronze.

Kemppi competed in the under-20 20-kilometer joint start race. He joined a group of four skiers who pushed for their own paths right at the beginning of the race and held their ground until the end.

World Cup gold was won by Norway Emil August Longvaand silver in Italy Marco Opposes.

Kalle Tossavainen was the 18th in the competition and Topias Vuorela 20:s.

The competitions will continue in Lillehammer until Monday of next week (March 9).

Biathlon the World Junior Championships will be held in Arber, Germany.

Hämäläinen won silver in the women’s 7.5 kilometer sprint. He competed in the under-21 category.

Hämäläinen, 20, shot one penalty in the competition and fell short of the Latvian who eventually won the race Esther Wolfast 53.9 seconds.

It is Hämäläinen’s second medal of these games, as the Finnish skier won the bronze medal on Sunday.

Hämäläinen was part of the Finnish team at the Milan–Cortina Winter Olympics. The biathlete competed in individual distances in sprint (ranking 77th) and normal distance (56th).

In addition, he took part in the mixed team competition and the relay. Finland fought its way to sixth in the mixed team competition and seventh in the relay.

The competitions will continue until Sunday, March 8.
