Miquel Barceló stars at the ‘El País’ stand at ARCOmadrid with the work ‘El Pintura Diario’

Miquel Barceló is the guest artist for ‘The Country’ to star in his stand at ARCOmadrid 2026, where the Mallorcan creator will show nearly fifty works made on newsprint under the title ‘Daily painting’.

This exhibition is part of the commemorative program for the newspaper’s 50th anniversary, whose stand (7C29) can be visited from March 4 to 8, as detailed by the newspaper.

The selection brings together drawings, paintings and collages intervened on specimens of ‘El País’, ‘Le Monde’, ‘Libération’, ‘La Repubblica’ o ‘Sicilian newspaper’among others. It also includes historical covers of ‘El País’ that were intervened, such as the one from May 8, 2000, which reported on the murder of journalist José Luis López de Lacalle.

Newspaper in Barceló’s work is not something new in his artistic career since he has used it in engravings, etchings and monumental workslike the horses and Icarus painted in 1998 in the church of Santa Eulalia dei Catalani, in Palermo.

Barceló divides his work between Mallorca and Paris. He creates in his workshops in Vilafranca de Bonany and Farrutx, and also in his studio in the Parisian neighborhood of Le Marais. At the same time, he is preparing three tapestries for Notre Dame and remains linked to the candidacy for the façade of the Glory of the Sagrada Familia.
