Dispute over bookstore price: “We will take action against the Office for the Protection of the Constitution” – Culture

DThe Rote Straße bookstore in Göttingen is one of 118 bookstores selected by the jury for the German Bookstore Prize this year. However, only 115 were honored. Three, including the bookstore from Göttingen, had previously been removed from the list by Minister of State for Culture Wolfram Weimer because there was “information relevant to the protection of the constitution” about them, as Weimer’s house told the SZ. The fact that the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution is investigating bookstores that have previously posed no known threat to the free-democratic basic order is in itself astonishing. What’s even more astonishing is that the reason for this is an award nomination. A call to Mechthild Röttering, one of the bookstore’s two managers.
