Ski jumping: Nika Prevc wins the overall World Cup early

Ski jumper Nika Prevc has won the overall World Cup for the third time in a row. Slovenia secured the big ball early in Lahti, Finland, making it only the third person to achieve this in the entire ski jumping circus after Maren Lundby (Norway) and Poland’s Adam Malysz (men).

The 20-year-old reached 124.5 and 128.5 meters when jumping on the large hill. In her 17th win of the season, Prevc was 14.2 points ahead of double Olympic champion Anna Odine Stroem from Norway (121.5/123 meters). The Japanese Nozomi Maruyama took third place (102.5/123.5 meters).

Friday as the only one in the top 10

The best German was Selina Freitag in sixth place. The 24-year-old reached 116.5 and 118.5 meters. After her disappointing performances at the Winter Olympics, the 24-year-old is back in a bit better shape. “It’s very good. It’s still where I’ve been before. But it’s a little easier. It’s about sticking with it,” said Freitag on ARD.

Agnes Reisch came 17th, Juliane Seyfarth 19th. Katharina Schmid, who also left the Olympics after great disappointments, had to settle for 25th place after jumps of 107.5 and 112.5 meters. “It’s no longer fun to jump. But I can’t be completely indifferent to it either. It’s nothing half-baked, nothing whole – and that’s how I’m jumping right now,” said Schmid (29), who is ending her successful career after the season. Anna Hollandt finished the jumping in 28th position.
